About a hundred residents of Tyonek, on the west side of Cook Inlet, were evacuated yesterday. Now shifting winds have the fire headed toward the village of Beluga, about ten miles from Tyonek. The wildfire near Soldotna, which started on the Funny River on the Kenai Peninsula, has burned across 31 square miles, or 20,000 acres.
Certain kinds of ammunition are in short supply in Northwest Alaska.
The federal archives in Anchorage is closing next month. Records will be sent to Seattle and digitized.
