New app on muni website provides snow removal plans and real-time tracking
Anchorage - The Municipality of Anchorage Street Maintenance and GIS departments launched a new interactive map to help Anchorage residents know when roads are plowed. The new map provides plow-out plans (snow plowing occurs for accumulation over 4 inches) and schedules and identifies state maintained roads.
“We can’t control the weather, but our new map provides Anchorage residents with plow plans and real-time updates for roads the Municipality maintains, as well as contact information for state maintained arterials and streets,” stated Mayor Ethan Berkowitz.
The Municipality of Anchorage operates 30 graders, 9 sanders, 2 de-icer trucks, with a 90 operators, that cover a 24 hour, 7 days a week operation. The operators maintain over 1,300 lane miles of road, 1,400 cul-de sacs, and 200 miles of sidewalks and trails within the right-of-way.
