6/24/14 KNBA News - Low unemployment in Anchorage leaves employers seeking qualified workers

Unemployment in Alaska's largest city was 4.9% in May, which seems like a good thing. But as APRN's Ann Hillman reports, it's actually a barrier to growth as businesses are having trouble finding qualified workers.

The four largest hospitals in Alaska will be paying penalties in the hundreds of thousands of dollars for poor marks on quality of care.  Providence, Alaska Regional, and Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, and Fairbanks Memorial ranked in the bottom quarter nationally for the number of infections and serious complications patients get in the hospitals. Administrators say they've implemented new safety and infection control measures that are already reducing problems.

No damage was reported from a 8.0 magnitude earthquake in the western Aleutians.
