As Heard on Morning Line: Soldier's Heart

Koahnic Broadcast Corporation

As heard today  on Our Community on Morning Line, Manager Neil Chandler with Southcentral Foundation Soldiers’ Heart Program.

Chandler explained that the program helps not only veterans, but also first responders.  Chandler says when people think of PTSD, often the image comes to mind of the wounded warrior, who had served overseas, but Fire, Police and Emergency Medical personnel also experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Chandler also shared a free event coming up in January, "Soldier’s Heart is an interactive educational training conference, developed by veterans, that aims to reduce the symptoms of PTSD and aid in suicide prevention among veterans, first responders, and their families. It is not a medical or diagnostic program."

Chandler says while the program is free, and directed towards Veterans and First Responders, there is an application process, and program staff are available to assist if needed, and can be reached at (907) 729-6671.
