At the beginning of May, the Skagway Traditional Council celebrated a milestone: opening a space dedicated to learning about its Indigenous culture. It’s a gathering place for locals, and an opportunity for tourists to dig deeper into Skagway history.

Haines’ mayor made the case for granting the land, part of which is a Tlingit cemetery, to a local tribe, the Chilkoot Indian Association. The plan was met with mixed reactions.
