As Heard on Morning Line: Fairview Park Fix-It

Google Maps Street View

Today on Morning Line, the Our Community segment featured an upcoming project hosted by the Anchorage Parks and Recreation & Anchorage Park Foundation:  The Fairview Park Fix-It

Volunteers are wanted to help with landscaping and repainting the facilities.

Part of the plan is to plant apple trees and raspberries, reflecting a nationwide trend of planting edibles in public green spaces.

The Fix It event is scheduled for this coming Saturday, May 20th, from 9am to noon, and the location is 1217 Latouche St, Anchorage, AK 99501.

As the park approaches it's 50th birthday, a Master Plan process sought to include community input, including drawing on ideas from the 2014 Fairview Neighborhood Plan.  Some criticism of park in 2011 included graffiti and waste in the park, as well as a lack of trash cans and a need for fresh paint.

Outreach included in-community design workshops, particularly at the neighborhood rec center, during a busy After School Program attended by elementary school students. Other structured community input activities included Community Advisory Group meetings, however, planners also used new technology like social media sites Nextdoor and Facebook, as well as a new one called

"Public profiles are a space where you can gather public feedback surrounding a project."
