Tanana Chiefs Conference

Today is the final day of the Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) Annual Convention, where leaders from villages all across Interior Alaska converge on Fairbanks each spring.  “Theme is Preserving Our Way of Life.”

Highlights include an announcement of support for a new facility called a Sobering Center, Victor Joseph, TCC [Chief/Chairman] said, "It's been a long time coming to try to find a safe place for the people that we need to help make sure that there is a alternative place that they can go and a place in a time of need."

Also Village Public Safety Officer (VPSO) David Atteberry of Minto was awarded the Village Public Safety Officer of the Year award.

TCC VPSO Director Sergeant Jody Potts  presented the award Thursday, commending Officer Atteberry's work in getting an underwater remote search and rescue device working, and becoming the first VPSO to undergo FBI certification as a Crisis Negotiator, as well as saving a man’s life after his 6-wheeler fell through the ice near the village – as recounted by Sgt. Potts.

More information about TCC 's Annual Convention, as well as video streaming of the proceedings, can be found at the Tanana Chief's Conference Website.
