ARCTIC WINTER GAMES. Fairbanks will host the Arctic Winter Games in 2028.The games had been set for 2029, taking the games off their three-year cycle due to financial challenges. But Fairbanks has stepped in to put the games back on track.
ANCHORAGE DOME. An inflated indoor sports facility in Anchorage known as “The Dome,” recently launched a campaign to help fund the replacement of its iconic fabric shell. The non-profit says without the funding, the sports dome may have to close permanently.
GLACIAL OUTBURST FLOODING FIX. An answer to Juneau’s plea for a solution to glacial outburst flooding is on the horizon. As KTOO’s Alex Soliman reports, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to seek bids for a project that should put an end to the floods in just a few years.
RIVERBANK RESTORATION. A program that is helping people in the Kenai Peninsula restore their private riverbanks is accepting applications through the end of September. As KDLL’s Ashlyn O’Hara reports, the program will help to prevent erosion and protect salmon habitat.
