BIG TIMBER MOTEL DEMOLISHED. The city of Anchorage has demolished the Big Timber Motel, a longtime East 5^th Avenue eyesore.

WHITTIER PIPELINE BREAK. Enstar Natural Gas is working to repair a break in a gas pipeline feeding into communities near Whittier.

Alaska Elections Director Carol Beecher was the main witness at a legislative hearing July 22, 2026.

VOTER REMOVAL. A Legislative Affairs attorney says the Alaska Division of Elections may have violated a 1993 federal law, when it purged more than 3,000 people from its active voter rolls last month.

Alaska Behavioral Health is a non-profit that was founded in 1974. It is Alaska’s largest community-based mental health provider.

RURAL HEALTH TRANSFORMATION PROJECT. The Alaska department of health announced the first round of funding for state projects under the Rural Health Transformation Project. Over the next five years the state will get about one billion dollars from the federal government for the program. This first round of funding is small: 19 projects across the state will receive $4.5 million dollars.
