KNBA re-introduces to our weekly program schedule, Stories of Our People and Native Word of the Day!

Produced by KNBA and Koahnic Broadcast Corporation, "Stories of Our People" and "Native Word of the Day" are long time feature programs that bring an entertaining way to promote values, traditions and oral customs of Alaska Native peoples.  Over the years these programs have been audience favorites and two of our most recalled programs when listeners reflect on why they like KNBA. As another important benefit, they encourage a dialogue and connection amongst all Alaska communities and generations.

"Stories of Our People" airs as 2 half-hour programs, Saturdays at 10:00am. Produced from more than 50 hours of live interviews, narratives and storytelling, representing a broad cross-section of Alaska Native experience. The programs are also streamed live on the Internet.

"Native Word of the Day" is a1-minute module narrated by an Alaska Native speaker who identifies the word and its language and demonstrates the word in a sentence. Currently 7 Alaska Native languages are being broadcast including Aleut, Athabascan, Inupiaq, Siberian Yup’ik, Tlingit, Tsimpsean and Yup’ik.  The "Word of the Day" can be heard weekdays at 6:00am and 6:00pm while also, streamed live and archived audio accessed on the KNBA Web site

Loren’s been on the Radio in Anchorage for 40 of the 50+ years he's lived here. Since the mid 80's he's worked with Anchorage radio stations including KWHL, KFQD, KKLV, KHAR and KMXS. His passion for programming a station and the 'Triple-A' radio format began in the early 90’s which led to him to help establish the format on KNBA when the station signed on in 1996. When not on the radio hosting a music show and interviewing local and national music acts, he may be hosting a stage at the Salmonfest music festival, carving a snow sculpture during Fur Rendezvous, on a road trip adventure, or hanging out in his hometown Anchorage.
