Anchorage, AK – Supporters say the oil tax cut will spur investment and production. Critics called it a giveaway to industry that will devastate the state economy.
EPA has fined Royal Dutch Shell affiliates $1.1 million for numerous violations of Clean Air Act permits during two months of preliminary work for exploratory drilling in Arctic waters. Shell says it learned a lot about how emissions control equipment functions in Arctic conditions.
U.S. Senators Mark Begich and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska have introduced legislation that tribes say is needed to fix the Violence Against Women Act, which excluded Alaska tribes from sections affirming tribal authorities over domestic violence. The state says tribes should be excluded from exercising those authorities.
