Anchorage, AK – The cost of living in Anchorage is 26% higher than the national average, but has increased only 2.2%, on par with rest of the nation.
Congress has raised interest rates from 3.4% to 6.8% for Stafford student loans, even though reduced subsidies to schools have doubled the cost of a college degree since 1980. And, workers with a high school diploma earn less money to put themselves through college, and unemployment for graduates is at 8.8%. Sixty percent of students graduate with $26,500 worth of debt.
