Anchorage, AK – Alaska's unemployment, at 6.2%, remains well below the national rate of 7.2%
To protect King salmon, or Chinook, returning to spawn, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game has restricted sportfishing on the Kenai Peninsula and Upper Cook Inlet. Last year, low returns of Kings lead to the near closure of commercial fishing for sockeye salmon, leading to economic disaster.
Mark Trahant, Shoshone-Bannock tribal member and noted journalist, has been named the Atwood Chair of Journalism at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Supporters of a smoking ban in bars rally at Dillingham City Hall.
