Anchorage, AK – A lawsuit filed by the Native American Rights Fund on behalf of Ahtna Athabascan Katie John led to the federal government taking over from the state subsistence fisheries management on navigable waters bordering or in federal lands, which make up 60% of Alaska lands. Hundreds gathered to remember her yesterday in Anchorage. She died last week at age 97.
