Anchorage, AK – Residents of Galena were evacuated sometimes without warning, and are now stranded in other villages, and in Fairbanks and Anchorage. However, flood waters overtook the sewage lagoon, and fuel tanks broke loose and leaked fuel. Those left behind and visiting officials work to clean up those and other hazards. To avoid attracting bears, officials in Galena plan to use a helicopter to remove meat spoiled from flooding or power outages.
Tok has experienced flooding from the Tok River, and Stevens Village, on the Yukon River, has a flood advisory in effect.
A correction to yesterday's newscast: The Katie John lawsuit led to the transfer of management of subsistence fishers on navigable waters from the state of Alaska to federal agencies, not management of subsistence on public lands, which had occurred earlier.
