Anchorage, AK – Women in Alaska are better educated but commit suicide at 2.1 times the national rate, many of them in their high school years; earn 67 cents per dollar paid to men; and 62 percent are homeless. State Sen. Lesil McGuire, who called for the report, is introducing legislation to re-institute the Alaska Women's Commission.
The head of Koniag, Inc., Will Anderson, has agreed to step down as president and Chief Executive Officer, positions he's held for seven years. No reason was given for his departure. Koniag is the regional Native Corporation for the Kodiak Islands area.
