Anchorage, AK – An international team of experts in biology, toxicology, veterinary medicine, and other sciences are still working to find out the cause of a disease afflicting seals and walrus, sources of sustenance in many coastal communities.

Alaska's population grew by 22,000 people, or 3.1 percent, between April 2010 and July 2012, twice the rate of the nation as a whole. The state "Population and Census" report is available on-line at laborstats.alaska.gov.

Unemployment in Alaska dropped to 6.6% in December, down from 7.8% at the start of the 2012. The state's highest unemployment was 28.6% in the Eastern Aleutians Borough. The lowest jobless rate was 4.6% in the North Slope Borough.
