Anchorage, AK – The 28th session of the Alaska state Legislature convened Tuesday, with 11 new members in the 40-member House, and 6 new members in the 20-member Senate.

Governor Sean Parnell is proposing a new oil tax that removes the surcharge that goes up as oil prices go up, which oil companies said is a disincentive to new development. The Governor's proposal would also focus tax credit incentives on new production.

A one-day Fatherhood Summit begins Thursday to teach men how to be better parents.
