Anchorage, AK – At a conference in Venetie, officials describe potential mining effects on Chandelar lake. The Smithsonian is returning human remains and funereal objects taken from graves of villagers who died in a famine in the late 1870s to the villages of Shishmaref, Gambell, and Savoonga. Repairs to a damaged bridge allow the road across the Alaska Peninsula to Bristol Bay headwaters to re-open. The comment period for NPR-A reserve development has been extended.
