Anchorage, AK – A Brigham Young University wildlife conservation professor says when people use guns to stop a bear attack, more end up dead or with more serious injuries, than those who use bear spray. Dr. Tom Smith says guns are sometimes the only solution for a problem bear. But he says it's hard to shoot and hit a charging bear, and people have more success in deterring the attack using bear spray. The top ten Iditarod Sled Dog Race mushers have passed through Ophir and are headed to Cripple.
