Anchorage, AK – A woman known for her beadwork and as a teacher has passed away. Mabel Pike was on the board of directors for the Alaska Native Heritage Center; taught beadwork at Stanford University, University of Alaska Anchorage, in schools, and at the Center; and was active in other community activities, including Bridgebuilders, a nonprofit working to fight racism. She was 92. The top 25 mushers in the Iditarod Sled Dog race are taking a mandatory 24 hour rest break in Takotna, 277 miles from the start.
