Anchorage, AK – A U.S. Geological Survey report shows conditions are right, though unconfirmed, for as much as 2 billion barrels of shale oil, and up to 80 trillion cubic feet of shale gas on the North Slope. The report doesn't address whether it's economically feasible to develop them. The IRS says about $6 million in tax refunds are owed to Alaskans who didn't file income tax returns in 2008. The Alaska Library Association has awarded the book "Our Changing Sea" its annual Alaskana Award.
