Anchorage, AK – Alaska receives 70% more federal dollars per capita than any other state. Federal dollars jumped from $6 billion in 2000 to $12.6 billion in 2010, due to post 9/11 military growth. Fewer Alaskans, 9.5%, are below the poverty line than the national rate of 13.8%. But 41.4% of female heads of households with young children are below the poverty line. Among Alaska Natives, the poverty rate is 21.6%. Legislators aim to help veterans looking for work get credit for military training and experience.
