Anchorage, AK – AARP is urging people to tell Congress not to cut Medicare or Social Security to balance the budget. Speakers at an Anchorage Chamber of Commerce luncheon say 1) Congress has been borrowing money from the Social Security savings account; 2)Alaska's senior population is growing faster than in any other state and contributes about $2 billion to the Alaska economy; 3) The longer Congress waits, the harder it will be to catch up; and 4) Cuts to Social Security benefits would just shift costs.
