Anchorage, AK – EPA issues draft permits for Shell Oil,Conoco Phillips exploratory drilling in Chukchi and Beaufort seas. Congress leaves Washington without passing an FAA bill, which could cost Alaska some $70 million. Calista is closing Alaska Newspapers, Inc., which publishes six rural Alaska newspapers. Silver Bay Seafoods in Sitka spilled about 100 lbs of anhydrous ammonia, causing an evacuation of 240 people and sending 15 for medical care. Alaska June unemployment at 7.5%.
