Anchorage, AK – Low king salmon returns lead to fishing closures on the Kuskokwim, lower Yukon and Anchor rivers. Federal regulators cap king salmon bycatch by pollack trawlers in the Gulf of Alaska at 25,000 to aid ailing fisheries. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration holds a hearing to prepare for the July meeting of the International Whaling Commission. NOAA plans to lay the groundwork for a 2012 decision on the quota of whales Alaska Eskimo whalers can take.
