The Alaskan Music Spotlight begins with musician Gary Sloan and a rare recording from his band the Outlaws at a show in 1966 at the Elks Lodge in downtown Anchorage. The venue is now the Snow Goose Restaurant.  As Anchorage celebrates our 100th anniversary this summer, the Alaskan Music Spotlight celebrates some of our Local Music roots over the past 50 years.  Our Live In-Studio guest is Mr. Whitekeys who talks about his time as a member of 'the house band' at ChilkootCharlies in the early 1970's, the days of 25+ clubs who used to all feature local music and we talk about the evolution of Alaskana humor in music.

Mr. Whitekeys continues to present the Whale Fat Follies at the Tap Root in Spenard on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays through August 19th, 2015.  For information on the shows, visit Tap Root HERE.

Whale Fat Follies, the Alaskan Show the Department of Tourism does NOT want you to see!

Just when you were joyously celebrating the 100-year Anniversary of the City of Anchorage, The Whale Fat Follies is back to tell the Real history of our town. And everything in this production is True---whether it really happened or not!

The Whale Fat Follies is the most extravagant Alaskan multi-media musical comedy ever staged, and features what Alaskans like best--Vicious political satire set to a happy, toe-tapping beat.

The Follies proudly presents a live band, stunning singers and dancers, over 800 awe-inspiring images of Alaskan stupidity, and a costume budget of over Thirty-five Dollars. According to Mr. Whitekeys, "we're not as funny as the Alaska Legislature, but we're proud to be a close second."

This years' Centennial Edition of The Whale Fat Follies will be a glorification of a town that, in only 100 years, has grown from a backwater boondock into a metropolis where people are more afraid of Gluten than they are of Grizzly Bears.

The Whale Fat Follies originally ran for 21 years at Mr. Whitekeys' Fly By Night Club, and this limited 31-show run is only the fourth time the show has been staged since the iconic Spenard sleazy bar closed its doors in 2006.

Joining Mr. Whitekeys on stage is an All-Star cast featuring stunning chanteuse Miss Regina MacDonald who last year was voted "The Third Best Actor in Anchorage!"; the totally hilarious Cameron Morrison; Justin "Beaver" Somaduroff on bass; "Mudflats" Morgan Welch on drums; and the singing multi-media wizard Jamison Morrison.

A tantalizing menu of fresh tasty American comfort cuisine and beverages is available. It's like real dinner theater without any Brussels sprouts or beets.

His passion for Music and the 'Triple-A' radio format began in the early 90’s which led to him to help establish the format for KNBA when the station signed on in 1996. When not on the radio hosting a music show and interviewing local and national music acts, he may be on a long road trip or you’ll find him hanging out at his log cabin in the quiet, but bear filled hillside valley of his hometown Anchorage.
