Anchorage, AK – University of Victoria researchers looked at several measures to determine the global environmental impacts of fish farming. Criteria included escapement rates, energy use, oxygen demand, waste, and discharges of pesticides, parasitides, and antibiotics. The results show fism farms harm the environment and put pressure on wild fish stocks. Meanwhile, the industry is growing by leaps and bounds in countries with the least regulation and enforcement.
