Alaska House of Representatives announces plans to appeal the Governor's decision last August to expand Medicaid. A court ruling earlier stated the Governor was acting within his authority to expand Medicaid. Legislative attorneys said a decision to appeal requires a vote by the House and Senate, a vote that wasn't taken.

Concerns have been raised that budget cuts that will reduce the number of food safety and sanitation inspections will lead to food-borne illness outbreaks, and unsafe swimming pools and spas. Earlier cuts have reduced to 13 the inspectors and managers responsible for inspection thousands of facilities statewide.

Northern Alaska communities will get broadband after a sub-sea fiberoptic cable is laid, actions made possible by sea ice that forms later, doesn't extend as far south, and melts earlier.
