As heard on Morning Line: National Native American Veteran Memorial seeks input

Smithsonian Institute NMAI

KNBA's Morning Line crew got a chance to catch up with Lieutenant Colonel Wayne Don today, about an event tonight at the Alaska Native Heritage Center.  Don says he had a chance to solicit Alaska Native Veteran input at the Alaska Federation of Natives Convention last year, and tonight's event is a continuation of the process.

The Memorial will be located in the heart of Washington, D.C., at the National Mall.

A flier circulated this week says:

Kevin Gover, Director National Museum of the American Indian cordially invites Native Veterans and Community Members to a discussion about the National Native American Veterans Memorial June 14th,  5pm to 7pm  at the Alaska Native Heritage Center Athabascan Ceremonial House at 8800 Heritage Center Drive, Anchorage, Alaska 99504.

The National Museum of the American Indian has been authorized by Congress to create a memorial honoring the service of Native Americans in the armed forces of the United States. Led by the Honorable Ben Nighthorse Campbell ( Northern Cheyenne) and the Honorable Jefferson Keel, Lieutenant Governor of the Chickasaw Nation, the memorial advisory committee welcomes your ideas for this important project.
