The company behind a controversial mining prospect near the headwaters of the Chilkat River has a new plan for handling its wastewater. Executives with Constantine Metal Resources and state regulators say the plan would contain any hazardous contaminants, but environmental groups are concerned the risk is too great.

The Chilkoot Indian Association launched a traditional Lingít arts apprenticeship program. The year-long initiative will pair artist mentors with apprentices to develop traditional skills – and foster vital cultural and traditional knowledge of the Chilkat Valley. KHNS’ Corinne Smith reports.
