A political action committee formed by former aides to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid last month provided the sole funding for a super PAC supporting Democratic Sen. Mark Begich. Put Alaska First reported nearly $670,000 in contributions from the Senate majority PAC in July.
An Anchorage Assembly and public employee union compromise months in the making may go to voters after Mayor Dan Sullivan vetoed the deal. The original Anchorage Ordinance 37 prohibited unions from striking, capped pay raises, and put limits on collective bargaining. Enough signatures were collected to put it on the ballot in November. A compromise deal failed to get a veto-proof majority vote by the Assembly. Unless members gain another vote, the issue will go before voters.
