As Heard on Morning Line: the Eklutna Pow wow

Today’s guest on Morning Line featured Steven Holley, leader of the Dena’ina dance group Ida’ina K’eljeshna, also known as the Friendship Dancers.

The dance group aims to revitalize their Dena'ina culture and understanding through song and dance. They formed in 2011 and have continued to make their presence known all over the state.  The dance group invites others to share their own cultures through song, stories and dance at a special powwow.

On July 28th and 29th, the Native village of Eklutna will be having their annual potlatch. This year, the powwow will focus on “Honoring our past by celebrating our future.” The event begins at 11:00 A.M.  daily and will include sharing of culture and traditions through food, song and dance.
