Anchorage, AK – The Iditarod Sled Dog Race is underway. Six Iditarod champions, as well as some younger mushers, may prove to be contenders. Alaska Native mushers this year include 2011 winner John Baker, Inupiaq, of Kotzebue; Mike Williams, Jr., Yup'ik, of Akiak; Pete Kaiser, of Yup'ik descent, from Bethel; and Josh Cadzow, Athabascan, of Fort Yukon. Front runners are Nicholas Petit, Brent Sass, Tom Thurston, Ray Redington, Jr., John Baker, Hugh Neff, Wade Mars, Peter Kaiser, Mitch Seavey, and Lance Mackey.
