by Alvin Eli Amason, Sugpiaq.<br>The artwork, ’Bear Painting with Chicadee,’ is a multicolored painting of a bear that includes a woodcarving of a chickadee at the top of the artwork made by Alvin Eli Amason. Alvin is a Sugpiaq painter and sculptor. He was born in Kodiak and is of Alutiiq ancestry. He earned his Master of Fine Arts from Arizona State University and taught at the Navajo Community College.

Painted by Central Yup’ik and Iñupiaq artist, Percy C. Avugiak. Percy’s ancestry is from Chefornak and White Mountain. He earned his Bachelors of Fine Art degree from UAF with a focus on Native arts and painting. His influences come from painter Ken Lisbourne and instructors in college, Alvin Amason and David Mollett.

by Elena Arrigoo<br>(Circular medallion)<br>The ’Who’s Taller’ Circular Medallion is a hand-crafted cobalt blue medallion made from seal skin with a scene of a blanket toss. The artwork was crafted by Elena Irrigoo who is from St. Lawrence Island.

by Lawrence ’Ulaaq’ Ahvakana, Iñupiaq.<br>The artist designed the Wall Panel utilizing old growth cedar, cast glass, beads, metal cones and Ivory including Qaluqaq panels with an Umialik mask. Ahvakana is nationally known for his artworkthat incorporates a sense of his cultural design. He studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, N.M., the Cooper Union School of Art, and then graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

by Heather Hanak, Athabascan.<br>The ’Ravens Path’ is a textile wall hanging made by Heather Hanak, an Athabascan artist whose family is from Iliamna. Heather made the wall hanging with silk dipped in wax pigments stretchedand sewn over wooden frames. The artwork includes black velvet sequin, recycled jacket liner, and abalone, pyrite and shell beads. Heather graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelors degree in Fine Arts.

by Wendell S. Brower, Iñupiaq.<br>(Oil painting woth Caribou Antlers)<br>The ’Brothers Bearings and Burden’ is an oil painting with genuine Caribou antlers that is three-feet by six-feet wide. The artist, Wendell Brower, was born in Barrow. His interest in art began as a young boy drawing snowmobiles. Attending UAA, he earned an Associates of Applied Science. His father, Gordon Brower Sr. taught Wendell the Inupiat subsistence lifestyle. Today, he integrates the culture into paintings and sculptures.

by Ron Senungetuk, Iñupiaq.<br>(Silver Maple Wood, Oil Stain)<br>The ’Ice Breakup’ Panel wall hanging is made of carved wood panel with shades of orange, white and black paint by Iñupiaq carver Ron Senungetuk. Ron is Professor of Emeritus of art and design at the UAF, where he developed the Native Arts Center. The Rasmuson Foundation named him Distinguished Artist of the Year in 2011. He studied silversmithing and woodworking at the Rochester Institute of Technology School for American Craftsmen in New York and Scandinavian art in 1960 in Norway.

by Earl Atchak, Cup’ik.<br>The Crane Mask is carved from wood and includes a carving of a man wearing traditional clothing and holding dance fans made by Earl Auralria Atchak. Earl is a Cup’ik artist from Chevak and works with a variety of media including driftwood, ivory, bone, and skins to create artwork depicting his village’s lifestyle. The traditionally taught artist is also a storyteller and won the prestigious Rasmuson Artist Award.

Larry McNeill, Tlingit.<br>’Tlatk, The Land’ is a multimedia, framed print that is 24 inches tall by 30 inches wide and designed by Larry McNeill. Larry was born in Juneau and is of Tlingit descent. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelor of Arts from Brooks Institute. He has received numerous recognitions for his work including All Roads Indigenous Photography Award, National Geographic, 2006 Juror’s Choice Award and more.

Romer, Yup’ik and Athabascan.<br>(Oil Pastel & Wood Print)<br>The ’Ever Since She Married Him She Moved Into His House’ is an oil pastel and woodblock print by Ryan Romer, a contemporary Alaska Native artist. Ryan earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Printmaking from UAA. He was born in Anchorage and raised in Bethel. His artwork has been displayed in local exhibits. In September 2011, Ryan exhibited an oil and acrylic painting with CNN’s ’9/11 Ripple’ project.

by David Boxley, Tsimshian.<br>(Print)<br>The ’Raven and Sky People’ is a print designed by David Boxley. David is a Tsimshian carver from Metlakatla. He was raised by his grandparents. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Seattle Pacific University. Through researching ethnographic material and carvings from museum collections, Boxley learned the traditional carving methods of his grandfather’s people. Today, David is a nationally recognized artist showing and demonstrating his art in many parts of the United States and Europe.

by Margaret Abraham, Yup’ik.<br> The Yup’ik Archer Doll is wearing a hand sewn kuspuk, denim pants and mukluks. He is preparing to launch an arrow through his bow. Margaret Abraham is a Yup’ik artist who learned the art of doll making from her mother.

by Barbara Donatelli, Mary Sallee and Jaclyn Sallee.<br>Barbara Donatelli and Mary and Jaclyn Sallee teamed up again to design and construct the Ottoman Accent Table. The top is hand sewn with sealskin and the sides and base are covered in glove leather. Circular medallions of sealskin decorate the sides, trimmed with Czech glass beads and adorned with an ivory button carved by Teddy Mayac Sr. The seams are finished with bone hairpipe and Czech glass beads. Barbara is of Yup’ik decent and Mary and Jaclyn are of Iñupiaq decent. Mary has sewn for decades and learned from her mother Lena Ahnangnatoguk.

by Liz Medicine Crow, Tlingit and Haida.<br>The two Raven Lamps are hand painted by Liz Medicine Crow. She is of Tlingit and Haida descent, and raised in Kake and Juneau. Liz studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts, earned her bachelors degree from Fort Lewis College, Colo. and a law degree from Arizona State University College of Law in Tempe, Ariz. She currently serves as the President/CEO of First Alaskans Institute. She is a member of the Alaska Native Sisterhood Kake Camp #10 and the Keex Kwaan Dancers.

The purse was donated by Cynthia Bailey who serves on the board of directors for Koahnic Broadcast Corporation and as the Director of Regional Government and Community Affairs at BP.

by Audrey Armstrong, Athabascan.<br>The artist hand sewn and decorated the beaded Salmon Skin Basket utilizing traditional fish sewing techniques learned from the late Fran Reed. Audrey’s artwork is in collections around the nation and she received an Individual Artist award from the Rasmuson Foundation. Born in Galena and raised in Nulato, her baskets areher own expression of the endangered art form that began long ago in her ancestral land on the Yukon River.

The Mayac family has gained an international reputation for their realistic carvings of Arctic birds made of walrus ivory. The Mayac’s collaborate, share tools and techniques as well as buy ivory together.

by Al Mayac and Charles Kokuluk, Iñupiat.<br>The Pacific Loon was carved from a walrus tusk by Alaskan Native Carver, Al Mayac. The Mayac family is known for their birds and other carvings. Some of their work has been collected by the Smithsonian Museum. The Common Loon was carved by Charles Kokuluk, from King Island. The sculpture of Charle’s birds are of his own design inspired by his heritage.
